Commercial Executive - Pathway to Commercial Manager

The Role

This is not a narrow job. You'll join as a Commercial Executive (and with the willingness to learn and grow) develop over 12-18 months into the Commercial Manager who manages the commercial side of the business. We're hiring our next key person in Melbourne.

Your First 6–12 Months

Learn the business from the inside:

  • Manage our customer service channels: the fastest way to build deep product knowledge, and the deliberate foundation of this role
  • Learn and support our distributor network across Europe, Asia and the Americas: orders, comms, coordination
  • Help plan and run events: trade shows, brewers cup competitions, community events (Australian Brewers Cup and World Brewers Cup)
  • Coordinate between our Melbourne team, our factory, and our China-based team
  • Pitch in on the local Australian side: cafe and roaster relationships, local competitions, the occasional technical support job
  • Help drive marketing and advertising activities

Where the Role Grows

As you earn it:

  • Taking on day-to-day responsibility for key distributor relationships
  • Representing OPTION-O at international expos and competitions
  • Driving marketing and sales direction with the team
  • Becoming a key link between Melbourne and our China-based team

Who We're Looking For

  • You're into coffee. You don't need to be a champion barista - genuine curiosity and a willingness to go deep matter more than your current dial-in skills. If you already live in the specialty coffee world, even better.
  • Mandarin is a big plus. A large part of this role is coordinating with our Shenzhen factory and our team in China. Written and spoken Mandarin will make you dramatically more effective (and more valuable to us).
  • People skills first. Customers, distributors, baristas, competitors, factory engineers - you'll talk to all of them. You write well, you're patient, and you genuinely like helping people.
  • Ambitious and self-directed. We're a small company. There's no ladder to climb - there's a gap to fill, and it's a big one. You want responsibility and you're willing to start hands-on to get there.
  • Melbourne-based and able to travel interstate and internationally.
