Q: Who is the LAGOM P80 grinder intended for?
A: The LAGOM P80 is an 80mm flat burr grinder designed for home coffee lovers who want to experience larger flat burrs without going over the top, and in a form that’s a pleasure to use every day. It embodies the spirit of lagom - not too much, not too little, just right. We put a lot of thought into the daily details to make sure it delivers the “ultimate” home grinder experience: quiet, simple to use, satisfying to handle, and straightforward to clean and maintain.
Q: What drinks can I brew with it? Can it make espresso, filter, or both?
A: Both. The P80’s stepless thread adjustment covers the full range - from Turkish fine to French press coarse. During development, we tested it extensively with espresso and filter, and it’s built to perform equally well for both. Coupled with its low/near-zero retention, this means you could also easily switch between brew methods.
Q: What are the burrs options available for the LAGOM P80?
A: At launch, it comes with Mizen 80mm Omni burrs (80OM). These are versatile, providing brews and espresso that are sweet, juicy, and with satisfying finish - in our experience, excellent for both espresso and filter and they are likely the only burrs you’ll need in most use cases.
The P80 also has a flexible burr mount that works with 3-pin blind-burr mount and two-screw burrs, so you have the option to experiment with other 80mm burrs if desired. That said, if you’re just starting to explore different burrs, the 64mm burrs may be a better platform, since it has wider burr availability/support and is a more cost-effective ‘playground’ for experimenting.
Q: What does this mean for the LAGOM P64 - has it become obsolete?
A. Not at all. In our opinion, the P64 remains a benchmark in its class - with a solid reputation built over the years, proven reliability, and a strong track record among home coffee lovers. It’s still one of the best platforms for exploring burr differences and how burr geometry shapes taste, since 64 mm burrs are widely available and more affordable. The P64 provides the stability, alignment, and precision required to truly experience what different burrs can do - giving you an accurate representation of each burr’s characteristics and ensuring you get the best from them. While the P80 introduces new features, the P64 remains an excellent grinder, continues to deliver delicious coffee as intended, with the same qualities (low retention, precise alignment, quiet, compact) that make it stand out and it’s always been known for.
Parts (most are standard industrial components and others can easily be manufactured on demand) - will continue to be available. We may also decide to do future production runs if there’s sufficient demand (for now our resources are allocated heavily towards the LAGOM P80 launch). We’ve also kept a stock on hand and are committed to supporting the P64 for as long as we’re around.
Q: What is the flavour profile of the Mizen 80mm Omni burrs?
A. The Mizen 80mm Omni burrs produce cups that are juicy and balanced, with medium/delicate acidity, sweetness, and complex depth/lingers. Think “Lab Sweet style,” but with more clarity and a tad more forgiving in use. They’re not traditional espresso burrs, nor the highly unimodal-flat type that can be more demanding on technique and dial-in. Instead, they’re designed to be versatile - equally at home with espresso and filter - and to bring out the best in light-roast specialty coffee (and flexible enough to also work for medium to medium dark roasts).
Q: How quiet is the P80?
A. Very. Similar to the P64, quietness was one of the key criteria when designing the P80. Despite its larger motor, the engineering and housing were designed to keep noise low while maintaining a compact footprint. Aside from the sound of beans being ground, it runs quietly in the background (even at top speed during purge mode). The hefty metal housing further dampens vibration and sound, making it a very pleasant grinder to use in a domestic grinder footprint.
Q: What’s different or new about the P80?
A. A few things. Static is reduced significantly (RDT is less neccesary - depending on your beans type and locale environment), the knocker is redesigned to clear out retention better, and there’s a purge function that spins up at the end of grinding (or on-demand with a double tap). The RPM dial is now a stepped adjustment (since large RPM shift is needed to make a meaningful difference) to improve repeatability, and the portafilter fork is tweaked to for easier fit and hold 58mm portafilters a little better, while still accommodating our multipurpose grind cups. The power cord is now integrated to allow its compact design and reduce its footprint. It can still be swapped out fairly easily if needed(but please contact us for instructions and approval especially if your grinder is still under warranty).
The upper assembly is now a single-piece design, eliminating loose components (e.g. springs, carrier and bearings) from routine cleaning. Reassembly is simple, and the redesigned zero calibration system makes burr replacement quicker and straightforward.
Q: Do you ship internationally? What about warranty?
A. Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping cost and timing depend on your location and will be shown at checkout. The P80 ships at around 12 kg gross weight, so depending on where you are, shipping can range between $50-$180 (exclusive of import duties unless stated otherwise).
For warranty, the P80 (like all our grinders) comes with a standard one-year warranty against manufacturing defects, plus lifetime support. Within the warranty period, any repair or warranty claim (if needed) will come at no cost to you. We also expect our grinders to work maintainence-free for many years to come, and are user-serviceable if needed be. After the warranty period, some repairs (or parts) may involve small charges, but we subsidize post-sales support to keep ownership costs low. Our aim is to make reliable, long-lasting grinders, and we stand behind them. You can also check our Terms & Conditions for more details on how we handle support.
Q: Can I see the LAGOM P80 in action?
A. Absolutely, we have a quick demonstration video to highlight its main features and workflow. Additional videos will be shared as they become available.
